I painted into the night, so I wouldn't be discovered.
Sneaky is my middle name.
Stealth makeovers are my game.
I made a decorating decision that I hope we don't get fined for...
if investigated, there would be enough evidence to convict me.
Exhibit A
As it has been for 10 years.
Exhibit B
A washed out Chinese Food Carry Out container paint tray, primer and a roller.
Exhibit C
Painter's Tape on Exhibit A
Exhibit A once again.
Being altered.
Exhibit A now becomes Exhibit D.
"D" for Dull.
Gray Primer can do that sort of thing.
After this phase, I
waited until the cover of nightfall, and committed the act of lawlessness.
I took my can of paint, snubbed my nose at red-door-lover naysayers
(hey, I've done my time!) and covered it with blue.
By the time the paint had dried in the morning,
it was too late to turn back.
My depravity had reached it's zenith.
The light of day exposed my sin.
Exhibit D had become Exhibit E.
Elegant Entrance.
Exhibit A and Exhibit E.
Now, let me allay your fears.
I am a law-abiding-HOA dues-paying gal.
As of 3 years ago, we are the living-longest-in-the-neighborhood family.
And in fact, the only original residing humans in the subdivision after it was finished.
This gives us grandfather clause rights.
One of them is changing the door color.
Feel better?
Now you can sleep tonight.
Whew!
Got away with that.
Perhaps, now I can change the doorbell, plant some flowers in the tiered planter,
and remove the glass storm door, ALL in broad daylight.
I will be putting our house's numbers back
on the column by the door, so the HOA police can find me if they need to.
If you want to read what prompted such a blatant act of defiance, read my post HERE.
The color I chose is Wythe Blue HC-143 by Benjamin Moore.
See it HERE.
For roomfuls of this color, go HERE.
Now, you!
Go paint something.
Break the rules!
Legally.
I love it!!!!
ReplyDelete:) beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove it, Leslie! I'm writing that color name down because I love it. What a difference! I didn't realize an HOA could tell you whether or not you could paint your front door. I guess if we look in an area with an HOA, we'll be asking lots of questions!
ReplyDeleteNow, that is one lovely looking door! I'd say you a bit of a rebel, you go girl! Cute post~ and great job!
ReplyDeleteNancy
I love the new color. I may go with a similar shade. I really love that tiered stand out front!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe they would object to such a beautiful color. Love your new door and the flower accents also. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI love it to!
ReplyDeleteI love it and Wythe blue is a fav of mine!! I think it is much quieter than the red so I am sure they wont mind and if they do you can use that as your defense!! You were trying to blend in more, hehe!! It really does look wonderful,
ReplyDeleteKathysue
I love that shade of blue. Looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteIt looks absolutely gorgeous! How can anyone object to such a beautiful colour? I'm sure they'll all be following suit now they've seen yours.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with this color. During our weekend drives into new neighborhoods, I have recently noticed this color painted on trim, paneling, doors, and shutters. Very calming, elegant, and welcoming!
ReplyDeleteYour door is gorgeous! So soft and pretty! I love that color!!! Your HOA should be thrilled!
ReplyDeleteYour door is beautiful. But I loved the red door too!
ReplyDeleteMakin' my heart go pitter-patter! You chose the perfect blue, I LOVE the change! At least you are a rebel with a cause, beautifying the world one door at a time! You may have neighbors calling and asking you do to some undercover makeovers for them as well. Good job!
ReplyDeleteLOL..you are funny! I am thinking if you did not get fined with the flaming red door, they will not fine your for your fresh blue door. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWe have nothing like that here in L.A.! No HOAs to come spoil. However...we DO have a potpourri of people who LOVE to take good care of their homes along with the sprinkling in of several that have never touched their front yards! I couldn't imagine not being able to paint the front door whatever color...but it's pretty! How in the world did you paint at night without it sticking in the morning?

Organizing Made Fun
I love that color blue...the door looks great! And I love that door hanger basket thingy with the flowers.
ReplyDeleteIn our neighborhood you'd have a problem with a red door. My next-door neighbor has one, which was approved when they built the house, but then the HOA came back and said she couldn't have it. After a big back-and-forth battle the neighbor won. It's the only house with a red door. HOA's can be such a pain sometimes.
Anyway, love what you did!
Jennifer
Love the new door color and what a pretty basket!! Martina
ReplyDeleteLOL! this post cracked me up! I too was a red door lover and paid my dues! I went black! and LOVE it!
ReplyDeletehehe! Too funny. Love love the new colour.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, what are we going to do with you???? Breaking the rules!!!!! It looks great!!! Perfect color! I love the basket w/flowers......B-eautiful!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Fantastic color! What a pretty basket and flowers.
ReplyDeleteLeslie, The new color looks great and I am loving your planter.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
Love it....and good thing you are grandfathered. I got a nasty gram from our HOA because I put brand new silk flowers in a pot when it was 110 degrees out! Ooooh, that was a B IG no no!!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks absolutely gorgeous Leslie! So fresh and soothing and just in time for Spring. I painted my door w/o discussing it with our HOA either but so far so good. I was brazen and even did it in broad daylight! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Vanessa
I have to say that I love a red door, but looking at the before and after your door looks much more modern now. I was even more in love with it when I learned of the color...I just painted my dining room Wythe Blue and I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteLoved the door story. I laughed all the way through, and what a beauty it turned out to be.
ReplyDeleteLove the color blue you chose!! Can I admit that a blog post capture of you being carted off by the HOA police whilst screaming, "Grandfather! Grandfather!" would just plain tickle me pink.
ReplyDeleteWith blogfriends like me, who needs blogenemies?
I love Wythe Blue. Of course, I love most of the Benjamin Moore Historic colors!
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in Alabama we were in a neighborhood with very strict HOA rules, so I know what you mean. . . but honestly!! YOU of all people should get to choose whatever paint you like for your door. :)
By the way, I was just noticing your blog header. Hmmm. Looks like Wythe Blue paired with red to me. Old door meets new door. ;)
ReplyDeleteHey Grandma! It's pretty. I didn't notice if you said if you like it or not. It is calm, peaceful and lovely. It's one of my favorite colors. Lisa~
ReplyDeleteYou nailed this one, Leslie! Home run! The new paint color looks amazing! So fresh! I'm loving it! Are you sure you're going to still want to move once you've done all these great makeovers to your home? LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis is sooo much better then the red one!Just love it..

i love the color you chose for the front door. i will make a note of it. it really dresses up but tones down the look of the whole porch. i love it!!!
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by my blog...
have a great week.
hugs
That is a fabulous color, I love the way it turned out. I'm thinking of using the same color on my back door {not ready to try something that brazen on my front door :) }
ReplyDeleteAnd if the HOA police find you, I'll go bail, just gimmea call.
xo
Love it, Leslie. You chose the perfect color. I almost purchased a basket just like that one this weekend. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteHello my friend "the risk taker" Which is a quality I do love about you!
ReplyDeleteYou always bring a smile to my day! Enjoyed reading your post and love the door color!
Moving out of the development and no HOA is a plus to living in the country :)
Hugs~

My daughter and I have been trying to decide on a color for our door and shutters. We are going with blue but don't have a definite shade in mind because I'm going to pick up a can of oops paint. In fact, we're getting oops paint for the living room walls, too.
ReplyDeleteWe'll paint this weekend, but ssshhhhh... don't tell the owner. We live in a rental.
I hope I don't get in too much trouble.
I am your newest follower. Loved your red door but now I love the softer touch of the color you just did. Check out my blog when you get a chance.
ReplyDeleteI really like the color you chose. At first I thought, "No, the red!!!" But, alas, your blue is lovely!
ReplyDeleteI think it makes it look so much better - isn't that really what the HOA cares about?
ReplyDeleteOh Leslie- I love how your door looks!! It is so warm and welcoming!! That basket of flowers is such a neat twist to the traditional wreath- I am going to have to keep my eye out for one!! I was just thinking bout you the other day when I did my post on English Cottage Style- I put some lovely hydrangeas in my silver champagne bucket! They are so pretty!! :)
ReplyDeleteNow, red is my favorite color, but your door looks elegant, Leslie!
ReplyDeleteI'll try to hold back the law-enforcement agencies! :D
I'm loving that bright red door!
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie, thank you for visiting my blog. I bought that clay at DeSerres (Canada), but I think you can find it at Michaels...
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend!
I Love the Blue! You've inspired me to get my curb appeal on!
ReplyDeleteThe door is nice, but the flower arrangement is to die for darling! LOL
ReplyDeleteYou my friend make me laugh! So glad you are not in cahoots with the HOA! Stealth painter of the night! I will continue to press forward and PAINT during the day! ;)
The door is beautiful... U choose a perfect colour... You give it a soft touch.
