Things My Relevant Roomies and You Should Know

What is a Relevant Roomie?

A blessed woman of God who gets to cram into a hotel room for 3 days, 3 nights
with a few other blessed women that she may or may not have met yet,
in Harrisburg, PA in October, the 21st-24th,
for a blogging conference for Christian women writers

Look over to the far right, on my blog, above my head.
See the Relevant Button above my head?
Go check it out!

My poor extremely lucky Roomies are:

so it's all good!
I am excited to learn and laugh together with all the Attendees!

If you are going to Relevant, and if you'd like to get to know some of the other ladies, write a Top 10 Things My Relevant Roomies Should Know About Me post,
and link up your post at these Roomies' blogs:

So here goes, I hope you still like me once you really know me!

I don't follow the rules: Like a TOP 10 things list, I'd rather torture you with a 50 TOP Things list.
I like to hear myself type.
I was born in Milwaukee, WI. Grew up in Jacksonville, FL, and ended up here in Greenville, SC.
South Carolina is home, and I am Southern, and you can't tell me any differently.
I love grits. And dark chocolate. But not together, though I might try that.
I don’t like shellfish (seafood). I wish I did. I do love Tuna and Salmon.
I love hugs, and you will get one whether you like it or not.
I am open to new ideas or criticism.

I love strangers, because I am a stranger here, or is that because there is no one stranger, here?
I drive fast. I’m working on that. Sort of.

I love a good hymn. “How Great Thou Art” and “It is Well with My Soul” are my favorites.
I’ve attempted to learn 3 different languages (Latin, Spanish and French). I only remember one: English.
I think public school teachers are the biggest unsung heroes in America. My sister is one of them.
Hydrangeas are my favorite flower. I am thankful that they can be dried and last all year.
I really do love people-and ask all sorts of questions because I truly am interested.
Popcorn is my favorite food.
Sometimes, I say bad words. Especially if I get scared (like almost driving off the road or something like that).
We have homeschooled our daughters for 11 years, combined, so far.
I've moved 23 times in my life. Literally.

I don't drink soda.
I don't color my hair, use perfume or use hair spray. Don't like the chemicals, they make me sneeze!

I have been looking forward to meeting my Relevant Roomies since Summer!
I hate dusting and vacuuming and avoid it with a passion. So, I make my daughters do it.

I have peanut butter and jelly on toast almost every morning for breakfast.
Laughter heals EVERYTHING. And I do it often, and loudly.
I sing in our Praise Band at church. The band's name? The Below Average White Band!
I’m lovingly competitive.
My life is an open book. I don't have anything to hide because I am not ashamed because I have been given much grace. Go ahead, ask me anything, I will answer you.
I don’t remember the names of or the plots of most of the movies I have watched in my lifetime.
I will break out in song at the very mention of something that prompts a remembrance of said song.

I do a mean sheep imitation, too, but that is reserved for Easter.

I take Synthroid, a hypo-thyroid medication every morning.
I have expensive taste. Unfortunately, I usually can’t act on it. But, I can occasionally replicate it.

  1. Leslie, I ALWAYS find your posts so interesting. You are such a talented lady and truly know who you are. God has given you wonderful insight. Who am I? Honestly, this is when I get tongue tied. I try to be a good person and do what God prompts me to do. Sometimes I forget to open my ears to hear him. I've come to the realization (finally) that my life does not revolve around me, and that has actually taken a lot of pressure off (when I remember that it isn't about me.)

I enjoy exercising a few morning a week at a club with other ladies in their mid 40's - 60's. I get crabby when I feel like I'm overextended on my commitments, yet I commit myself so infrequently. I feel very lazy at times.

Well -- I doubt that is actually who I am, but that's what I've come up with at this minute of this hour of this day. In ten minutes it might be something totally different. I keep waiting for God to direct me. He will and maybe has started to do so. I am His child and feel as though I regularly disappoint Him. It's a good thing that He loves me because He is God and not because I am Jan.

I also truly hate to cook and truly love to create, but don't get the opportunity to do so as much as I like because I find multiple excuses that keep me out of the craft room. (self-defeating?) Direct me, Father. Show me my path.

  2. Mmm...dark chocolate! My fave too. We have the perfume thing in common too. Your list literally made me laugh out loud in some parts. I'm sure your roomies will love you. Have fun at the conference! (Though judging by your list, that's a given) :)

  3. I really loved this as well. What a wonderful insight to a beautiful personality!
Not to mention, I am really thinking now.

  4. We have some things in common - our expensive tastes and inability to act on it for one!! I love free junk and find it hard to pass by. You'd love my local auction house. I have had many wonderful £1 bargains from there - that's pretty near to free! Maybe I should do a post on all my past auction bargains?

And we're both sinners saved by grace! Praise His Holy Name!

I don't drink coffee, or do Elmo impressions - more like Oscar the Grouch in the mornings if I have not had my large mug of tea!

  5. Love this!

I especially like the fact that I couldn't go down more than three or four without smiling in realization of how much alike you and I are. Lucky me... poor you.

But my holiday imitation is the turkey!

  6. Lets see, southern girl, dark chocolate, grits, fast driver, bad word yeller, lots in common. Yet, lots I could learn from you too. Thanks for sharing. Have a great time with your new roomies. Should be lots of fun.

  7. I've lived in Harrisburg for just over a year now. The hotel the conference is at is across the street from a great little place called Christmas Tree Shop. Don't let the name fool you- it's not all Christmas stuff- you'll LOVE it! Hope you have a great time!

  8. Popcorn is my favorite food too! Can't wait to meet you! Thanks for stopping by my post earlier!

  9. Your blog is so refreshing!! Your home is beautiful but your "commentary" is so uplifting!!Thanks so much for taking the time to share your "world" with us!!!! I was surprised to see that you were raised in Jacksonville Fl. Jax is my home, has been all of my "50" some odd years!!! Have fun, Blessings!! Terri

  10. I was already excited to meet you, but now even more so! Cannot wait to get a hug from you and give you one in return! :)

  11. Well, gee Lesley, no wonder I already love you to pieces. You are so real.

One of my favorite posts was when you shared about how miserable you use to make your family right before guests came over and they asked you some tough simplified version but you know what I am talking about. I knew right then that we had much in common:)

Let's see....about me....I love to talk (as in give messages) and I like to write but I can't tell if people are with me like I can when I speak and I want to know I am making sense. I seldom meet a stranger. My mom taught me that I am to learn a lesson and teach one to all that I meet so I am always looking and learning. I can't remember when I didn't know and talk to God just like I do with my closest friends though I can remember when I turned away.

I could go on and know how we talkers can be:)

Hugs and I envy your roomies all the good conversations that will be had.

  12. Great list, Leslie! I too have pb&j most mornings (or for lunch), forget the names and plots of movies (drives my sister nuts), don't smoke or drink but do on occasion swear. I used to pluck my eyebrows but discovered electrolysis and stray eyebrow hairs (and some dreaded chin hairs) are gone baby gone! I actually retired my tweezers to the craft room.

  13. Funny! I love your list. I wouldn't be able to think of that many meaningless bits of information about myself. I am impressed. :) Lisa~

  14. Have a wonderful time! I enjoy people who ask questions, and I like to do the same. Life is so much more interesting once you really get to know someone. I'm terrible at small talk. I like a good heart felt chat. :)

  15. I so enjoyed your post today. I'll let you in on a secret, I spell my "bad words" and my kids (20 and 22) always ask me if they don't count as cuss words when I spell them!

  16. We have a lot in common. :) I cuss like a truck driver. Oh wait. I was a truck driver--does that mean I'm still allowed?? ;)

  17. Hi Leslie~
Great post!! Really enjoyed it!! Lots of interesting tidbits!!
Let's see... I don't know what to share... I have a collection of antique dolls that most people find creepy...I don't smoke, I love red wine & coffee & I love to have a nutty bread toast for breakfast in the morning! :)

Thank you for coming by and for sharing your heart and thoughts with me!
