Hi, all you brilliant, creative, stylish, frugal ladies!
(Like how I flatter you because I want something?)
You will have the power to change the course of Miss College girl's room,
and its decor. I want to know what you think.
Miss College girl, or Miss S, is now living in her dorm room.
Here's my dilemma, and what we have so far.
And here are some photos along with that dilemma.
Her room when it is nice and neat:

See the "cool" mirrors stuck to the wall?
I have decluttered the room, patched the holes in the walls, and am about to
prime over the lovely Apple Green paint.
It looks like this today.
All these patches are to cover holes left from removing 1" and 2" mirrors that were really "cool"
before I started removing them.
The room will be getting the all-white ceiling fan on the chair (thanks, mom!),
the closet door will go back on.
The armoire and nightstand can stay or go.
See the darker paint patches in the closet?
I will be painting the room the color on the right.
Believable Buff-Sherwin Williams.
A closer picture.
The color on the right.
I need to tell you, that starting with Miss S's room,
we are in the beginning stages of staging our house to sell it.
Our plan is to have it ready to list in January 2012.
God may have other plans? Who knows!
We'd like to move to downtown Greenville, and into a bungalow or Craftsman-style home.
It seems like a long time away, but I counted 32 spaces that need staging.
This includes closets/hallways/porches/deck, so it will take awhile.
So, we are working with Believable Buff.
Lucky y'all, you get to follow me along as I stage our house!
Whoopie, right?
So, here's the dilemma.
I found yet another goodie by the side of the road!
Another curby find.
Another curby find.
Here she is:
I also found this POTTERY BARN bedding(!) at the Good Will Clearance Center
where everything is weighed by the pound ($1.19 here).
The queen duvet cover and two pillow shams, at 4 pounds, including tax, cost $5.09!!
Notice the scrolly white headboard!
I love this picture!
A close-up of the embroidery.
It is a pale grey-teal.
The curtains that I'll use are a solid pale-grey-teal satin that match the blue in the bedding.

Did I mention the dilemma yet?
I don't think so!
Okay.
Here it is.
Do I sell the oak headboard that is already in her room on Craigslist
and paint the headboard I found WHITE-ish, like the PB picture
or do I paint the oak headboard white or leave it wood, and sell the scrolly headboard?
Any other thoughts?
I have an idea of what I'd like to do, but what would YOU do?
.

I like the metal one better! I think the wood one will look heavy even if it is white, might make the room seem smaller. Good luck, and totally envious of your side of the road find!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to say that I like the scrolly headboard because it looks more open; hence, I think it will help keep that area of the room looking more open and a little larger.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you are going through Leslie having done it last year at this time. We had to come off the market November 1st though because hubby is in retail and if we sold he just wouldn't be able to go looking at another house. We are probably going to go back on the market this coming January. Toughest things ~ taking the long hall family photo gallery down and packing it up; and going through everything to throw out, garage sale or donate. A dumpster on the driveway can be very motivating. : )
Sounds like you have a plan! I love the bedding and I agree that the metal one painted white will look much better. The wood one is heavy. Can't wait to see this makeover and the long windy road of staging your whole house!!
ReplyDeleteScrolly headboard all the way. Goodbye Oak, Hello Scrolly -hee hee, I just cracked myself up :)
ReplyDeletescrolly headboard for sure...what a find!
ReplyDeleteScrolly, all the way!! I love the look you're going for. I haven't been to that GW in awhile. I usually just go to get clothes and sheets to use for quilting. Can't believe what you found there! I love the N Main area downtown and would LOVE to live there.
ReplyDeleteOh, that armoire (is it Arts & Crafts>), they had one just like it, with a matching vanity (no mirror) at the GW over in Berea for $100 back in May! I wanted them soo bad, but Charles said I had enough stuff to do. I still wish we'd have gotten them.
ReplyDeleteI like the metal curb-find, so curvy! And I have wanted to live in a Craftsman Bungalow for YEARS now! I am so jealous...
ReplyDeleteI love the scrolly one! My mom was a decorator and I had one in my room as I was growing up...so, I've always loved white!
ReplyDeletexox
You hit the jackpot at Goodwill!!! I like the scrolly one! Can't wait to see the final result!
ReplyDeleteI also say keep the scrolly, sell the wood one. I am sure whatever you do, it will be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm agreeing with all the scrolly votes up there! Yes, more open feeling I believe. I can't believe you found that at GW. That was a fantastic deal!!
ReplyDeleteKeep the metal headboard...it's more girly in my opinion :) The room will look awesome when it's done.
ReplyDeleteYou girls aren't opinionated, are you ;)?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the help!
Scrolly headboard, bye bye oak. Susan
ReplyDeleteI love the new road side headboard and that is the one I would use. No matter what color you end up using it is going to take up less visual space in the room helping the room to look bigger. Good luck with the staging.
ReplyDeleteTraci
I like the scrolly one too! Looks like that might be the majority!
ReplyDeleteJody
Sounds like you know what your doing. I do as well like the scrolly one best. Painted in black would be good but with the bedding you have picked out, white would be best. Ha Ha like you know already.
ReplyDeleteLeslie, I am so glad you popped over to my blog to say hello!! What a beautiful room you fixed for your daughter.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh when I saw the photo of all her stuff she dumped in her room from college. When my daughter was in college I came home to my formal living room full of computers and you could not walk through her bedroom for the stuff. She had her stuff and her boyfriends stuff. He stayed with us one whole summer. You gotta love college kids.
Scrolly headboard for me...I can't wait to see the new painted room.
ReplyDeleteGo with the scrolly headboard.
ReplyDeleteWow, I hate to say this but you made a mess! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the scroll headboard.
I wanted you to know I tried to answer your question about my kitchen paint color but got a non-reply on your email. It's "Useful Brown" - Kilz from Walmart. It is so not brown, though. It's sort of an golden olive green. I love it and I think I'm going to paint our TV room the same color. Good luck with your project!!!!
Metal painted white, so romantic!
ReplyDeleteWell, I should probably begin by saying that two of the three bedrooms in our home have ivory iron beds, one of those rooms being the master.
ReplyDeleteI love them and that's what I would pick. I don't even need to scroll back and forth.
I will say that this is going to be fun to watch, and I do love your plans. I'll be taking notes...
I also saw on your sideboard that we're about to have a kitchen "Ta Da" soon too! Yay! I so desperately need a life or a pair of pennies for a project of my own if I get that much enjoyment out of someone else's reveal. That was my way of saying that I'm looking forward to it.
I am diggin the metal... There could be some fun other uses for the wooden headboard... or you could sell it...either way- I am sure it will look nothing short of- FABU!
ReplyDeleteThough both are nice I say keep the scrolly metal headboard! I am sure what ever you do will turn out lovely though.
ReplyDeleteI am loving that found scrolled headboard. It will look heavenly painted white, esp. if you keep the sheer curtains in her room.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the staging, we hope to relocate in 2014, and I'm already starting a mental list of what we will need to have done before we put our place on the market as well.
Love the metal headboard better. More light and airy....can't wait to see the finished room!
ReplyDeleteKeep the scrolly headboard and paint it white and sell the oak one on craigslist! I wish we had a goodwill clearance center that was a GREAT find.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm here for the first time, but might as well jump in with both feet. I vote for selling the oak and keeping the metal, and painting it white. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI love the scrolly piece...just love it. It will make it open light and airy...it will also give potential buyers new ideas to think outside the box. I look forward to seeing what you are all doing. I love downtown Greenville, great place. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteNice Goodwill deal! Those neutrals are very nice. Such a better selection these days. I like the brown tones rather than the cream tones of yesteryear.
ReplyDeleteScrolly headboard for sure! I am a little green with all your good finds. You always amaze me :)
ReplyDeleteNo debate, scrolly headboard is the keeper. It will stick in people's heads as a beautiful room adding to the overall impression of the house.
ReplyDeleteLeslie,
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! Look forward to following you through the process. I am with the majority here. Sell the wood and paint/distress the metal one. What a deal you got on the PB bedding. You are the Queen of Thrift!
Your Friend,
Deborah
Are you KIDDING me??? That PB set for $5????
ReplyDeleteYou lucky, lucky, girl!! And yes, I'm with the iron bed, too.....will look more open and airy. I can't wait to see the finished product!
Suzanne
Wow! I'm impressed with everything ... your energy, your ideas! I do like both headboards but probably go with the scrolly metal one. As long as it remains sturdy...I can't stand the headboards that wobble a little when you get in bed! LOL.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had a Good will clearance center! Great deals.
Have fun and I look forward to seeing many more projects!
