Hi all!
So, my beefcake and I are back from Williamsburg, VA.
We had a get-away, alone, last week!
We haven't gone on a week's vacation without the kids for 10 years!
We have had weekend trips, but not the WHOLE week.
What a fun, relaxing time!
We arrived at 12:30 A.M. and it didn't matter, we could sleep in if we wanted to!
A clean, pretty space was waiting for us.
Not a speck of dust.
Everything was in its place.
Perfectly petite, this miniature home-away-from-home had everything you needed.
Even a flat screen TV and an iPod player.
The bed was made and the pillows were fluffy-ish.
The dresser was uncluttered and fresh.
Extra blankie and bedding, hangers (fancy wooden ones), a safe for valuables,
they thought of everything!
(I only opened the door for this picture!)
Space-saving stackable clothes cleaning center.
With no piles of dirty laundry on the floor.
The tub was scrubbed, no toys or half-used bars of soap in here.

The pre-portioned detergent all ready and waiting.
The towels were already on the towel bars, the toilet lid down and no toothpaste spots!
Didn't even have to bring hygienic items!
The kitchen had everything you'd need for cooking anything you'd want to eat.
A coffee pot, for the beverage that is the main, most-vital part of the early day
and a basket with goodies, including popcorn that is the main, most-vital part of the late day.
It was shiny, spotless.

Simple and efficient.
The dishwasher had been emptied and the dishes were strangely in their place.
These items were just where you'd expect them to be--well, maybe not the blender.
Gleaming utensils, organized, convenient.
Which I lifted not a finger to lay them all in a row.
Kitchen towels folded and waiting and polished pans nested and lingering.
This was bliss!
Heaven!
Rapture divine!
No work, no cleaning.
All the basic needs were met.
No errands to run.
No one to nag and no chores to delegate.
No cooking!
(I only cooked one night, the other nights it was salad or popcorn!)
We visited Colonial Williamsburg at our own pace, and rode some rides at Busch Gardens!
On Tuesday, we drove to the Outer Banks, NC (3 hours east) to visit his family
for awhile, and stroll barefoot along the beach.
It was nice to be able to return each day to this, our clean, simple, beautiful room.
Now, don't get me wrong, Mark and I needed the time away,
it was so very relaxing, I loved being alone with my groom, and I would go again in a heartbeat
but
What I Learned from Vacationing in a Timeshare
is that I actually
missed my role as
duster,
put-awayer,
delegater,
alarm-clock,
on-site exterminator,
cook,
towel-folder,
shiner,
errand-runner,
washer,
vacuumer,
nagger,
laundress,
hugger,
mother.
And it's nice to know that I was missed, too!!

Sounds heavenly..a week away just hubby and I would be wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were able to do it ..so good for a marriage!!
Best thing about going away is coming home again! So glad you got to do both! Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say, Leslie, all of that is just lovely, but I think that after 24 hours I'd miss the human touch that is my family! Of course, I wouldn't let them know that I missed the toilet roll being empty with the new one sitting on the edge of the tub; or the dishes in the sink after I just emptied the dishwasher. Just for me to know would be enough! : )
ReplyDeleteOur kids have left the nest but we have grandchildren and their parents visit often. We spent a week in Hawaii in a timeshare much like the one you shared and loved it. After 10 days we were very happy to be back home. Time away is a blessing but so is coming home.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a great break... but ah yes, home is always so much sweeter when we return! Glad you had some time off.

Welcome back! Glad to hear you had a great time just the two of you. I don't remember the last time that happened around here.
ReplyDeleteNo, you didn't really miss those things did ya?
ReplyDeleteI love going away for a week alone with my honey---and we usually feel very rested by the time it ends and are ready to do some work....hmmm, may be that is what you meant?!
I love the Holmes poem...SO TRUE! Don't you just love getting away and then coming home again. All refreshed and ready to love those babies to death and face the chores ahead;)!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you had a wonderful time with hubby...and so glad that you are back!
Thanks for stopping by earlier!
Cathy
I finally found my cheese grater ! It was in Virginia all this time?! In the drawer in that kitchen. Wonder who put it there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your week with us all Leslie. You're special ! Glad that you two love birds are back in your nest.
I am so looking forward to a vacation with just me and my hubs. I'm glad you got it. It's always nice to have a break because when you come back, everything is exciting to do again...even washing toilets.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful time, but I do so agree that there is no place like home. Glad you had fun. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a wonderful getaway, Leslie. You and your sweetheart deserved it! Susan
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are home safe and sound. I know how good it feels to pull into the driveway and know it is all waiting to embrace you.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the Ebay tutorial.....but catch your breath first:)
Thank you so much for the birthday song, the best words I've ever heard in a birthday wish song.
ReplyDeleteWe did just a weekend get a way. Loved it and the place, but you are right, there is no place like home!
It did make me want my bedroom have the feel of a B & B, though,
Lezlee
Sorta great to have someone take care of you for a few days, but always feels good and full of inspiration when you get home!
ReplyDeleteThe chalkboard message was really sweet!
So glad you had a relaxing time with hubby! We have never done a time share. Thanks for letting us know about it. Lisa~
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a chance to get away with your hubby. Always fun. We haven't done that in a long time. (he farms and can't leave the animals :( sigh). Hope you're refreshed because we sure missed having you post this week. Glad you're back!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for ebay info.
I clicked "LOVE" for this one because I do. I was wondering as I read if that was where you were going, and I was hoping so. I can relate to this very much.
ReplyDeleteI DO LOVE Williamsburg, though!!! It's one of my favorite places to visit though we haven't been in years. It used to be in the husband's territory so we could hitch a ride periodically.
I once had a lovely chat with Patrick Henry there. Quite an engaging gentleman. (It doesn't take much at all for me to get into character... being a character myself and all.)
I also love the OB. My sister has a little cottage there so we visit with her.
Great post, Leslie. So glad that you have a great time with your beefcake.
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay! The place looked beautiful! BTW - I listed your blog for the lovely blog award. If you would like to participate please visit http://untiltomorrowval.blogspot.com/2010/08/lovely-blog-award.html and repost :)!
ReplyDeleteWelcome Home...So glad to hear you enjoyed a nice get-away with your husband. My family and I just returned from a trip too. Although it was a nice visit to see some family, there is no place like home.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm jealous! We've yet to really go away w/out kids... Your trip looked wonderful and the homecoming note says a lot about how you've raised your girls. Well done!
ReplyDeleteBTW ~ your comment about the ferrets made me laugh ~ THANKS! I'll be back soon for Ebay tips n more!
I just found your blog and love it! We too, just had our first stay in a time share. It was in Pigeon Forge and we really liked it..it also didn't hurt that it was free to us due to it being a family member's lol. As I was browsing around,I noticed you live in Greenville. My in-laws live in Gray Court,Spartanburg and Landrum.Love it up there!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got to get away for a week! And the time share is so pretty! I would agree that the best part is coming home :) There is no place like home!
